My Vision of the Holy Trinity

Thinking about the Holy Trinity; the Father, Son and Holy Spirit used to be daunting to me. Three persons in one is a divine mystery and something my human finite brain couldn’t grasp. I found it easier to think about them as individuals.

When I think of God the Father, I envision him full of power, authority, all knowing, in control, a ruler and a king. The one who has complete control of everyone and everything. In my mind, He sits on a throne above everything thus He appears less approachable. It reminds me of the scene in the Wizard of Oz when Dorothy and her friends are approaching Oz for the first time. The face they see before them is huge and  commanding. They are so small and insignificant in comparison. However, when they return a second time, they are still standing before the “great and powerful Oz” and yet they discover that he is a kind, caring man with a sweet, loving voice. He was before them all the time but the curtain was in front of their eyes.

Jesus, the son of God, I visualize as the portrayals of him in the movies, The Shack and The Chosen. I see him as a regular, down to earth guy who has a kind voice and is very approachable. He is like a brother who I can be really close to. Because he is God and man, my minds eye sees him full of wisdom and easy to listen to.

The Holy Spirit is harder for me to imagine. But what comes to mind is the magical, invisible Tinkerbell from the story Peter Pan. Someone who is a loyal friend, who always stands by me, defends me and sprinkles pixie dust, a.k.a wisdom and guidance, on me with love.

These characteristics of the Holy Trinity might sound whimsical to many people but they work for me. After all, our God is a powerful, omnipotent, loving God who wants us to talk to him in our own words in an approachable manner. He wants to teach and guide us as he stands with us every moment of our lives. Truly three persons in one.

“May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.”               2 Corinthians 13:14

For in Christ all the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form..”   Colossians 2:9

For years people have asked me to pray for them and their intentions. I feel honored and humbled with these requests. If you have a concern weighing heavy on your heart, please connect with me on my Prayer Request page (found in the Main Menu). I would be honored to add you to my prayers.
