Celebrating Mothers

This post is a “special edition” you might say because in a matter of days we celebrate Mothers. As different as we all are, we share this commonality; we all have a mother.

First and foremost, I think of my own Mom and all the love and devotion she gives my sister and I. Next, I think of my sons. They have blessed my life with the privilege of being a mother. Then I start thinking of the role a mother plays in life.

Women can be birth mothers, adoptive mothers, step moms, foster moms and  grandmothers. There are several well known mothers in the bible such as Eve, the first mother. The mother of Moses, who put him in a basket to float down the river to spare his life. The mother, who in front of King Solomon, was willing to give her child to the other woman in order to save his life. And the most memorable mother of all, Mary, the mother of Jesus. In our lifetime, we saw the generous, selfless and genuine love for others from Mother Teresa.

Love is the driving force for all these women. The devotion, the care, the worries and fears and the thousands of prayers Mothers so easily give the children they love is remarkable.

It is the magnificent love shown to us by that special woman in our life and the love we pass forward to our families that we celebrate on May 11th. I pray each of you have a blessed Mother’s Day.

“Adam named his wife Eve, because she would become the mother of all the living.”  Genesis 3:20 (NIV)

“But when she could hide him no longer, she got a papyrus basket for him and coated it with tar and pitch. The she placed the child in it and put it among the reeds along the bank of the Nile.”  Exodus 2:3 (NIV)

“The woman whose son was alive was filled with compassion for her son and said to the king, “Please, my lord, give her the living baby! Don’t kill him!”  1 Kings 3:26 (NIV)

“Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her.”  Proverbs 31:28
