Happy Thanksgiving

The older we get the faster time goes by. I remember as a kid time seemed to drag especially when I was doing a countdown to something special. Now it seems like it is the beginning of a new year, then it’s the 4th of July and before I realize it is the winter holidays.

Every year it seems the stores set up their Christmas aisles earlier than the year before. They take down the swimsuits and beach towels and put up boxes of artificial trees and lights. This year I saw Christmas cookie mixes on display the day after Halloween!

What happens to Thanksgiving? It seems to be overlooked more and more every year. It probably sounds silly but I have always felt sorry for it. Every year it has a different date. This year it is November 28th. It seems nowadays the focus is on the dinner and football games. There may be only one small display of turkey and pumpkin decorations in the stores. It seems to get very little recognition and yet it is such an important day. It is our national holiday to give thanks.

I have so much to be thankful for and such wonderful people to thank. Thank you to my husband, my sons, my Mom, my sister, my nieces and nephews, my friends in Washington and Arizona, and the new friends following my blog. All of you bless my life immensely. Above all, I thank our Lord because all of these people are blessings from him. I give thanks to God for everything I have. And I thank him for those pilgrims and Indians who came together and shared a meal so many years ago.

On November 28th and in the busyness of these winter months, please take time to tell God and your loved ones of the Thanksgiving in your heart.

Give thanks to the Lord for he is good; his love endures forever.”  Psalm 107:1

“I thank my God every time I remember you.”  Philippians 1:3

Thanks be to God for his indescribable gift!.”  2 Corinthians 9:15

  2. I have always thought the same about Thanksgiving- so overlooked and forgotten.
It is the one day to just spend time together and have a good meal. Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday! No expectations, so maybe I should be thankful it is quietly displayed- because it does bring me peace. Thankful for you Donna, to remind me to always look for the good in everything no matter what. Your support and encouragement have meant a lot to me. So, thank you dear friend – Happy Thanksgiving to you and Bob and your family!
